All Ages

- Great for kids AND adults.

Finding Nemo - This movie is hilarious. The blue fish makes the whole show. Go see it.

Pirates of the Caribbean - A swashbuckling tale where Johnny Depp gives a fabulous performance as a foppish Pirate Captain looking for his ship. Lots of fun and adventure. People who have ridden the ride at Disneyland tell me that there was good parallel between the ride and the movie. The half-dead pirates may make it unsuitable for younger children, but it's a lot of fun.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. - I'm going to get on my soap box about this one. This was a great movie that is fun for kids and adults. It sets a good example for kids. For those who won't let their kids see it because of the "occult meanings" or whatever in it, I feel sorry for your kids. You obviously think so little of them that you don't think they can tell the difference between what is real and what is make believe. And they've probably watched at a friend's house and not told you, anyway. Wouldn't you rather watch it with them?

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - Ages 7+ because this is darker than the first one, but I liked it just as much.

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban - These movies are getting progressively darker. Not sure how long I'll keep putting them in this category.

Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, Return of the King - If you liked it in theaters, you should see the extended version at least once. Visually stunning. As always, the movie is not exactly like the book, but I think Peter Jackson handled it very well. http://www.lordoftherings.net

ICE AGE - Best Cartoon of 2001. Better than Shrek and Monsters Inc. Combined.

The Emperor's New Groove - An entertaining movie for kids and adults.

Toy Story 2 - Yes, the sequel is better than the first, but if you haven't seen Toy Story you may not get all the jokes.

Hercules (Disney) - One of my favorite things about this movie is that it makes fun of the Disney Merchandising. James Woods does a great job with the character Hades.

Mulan (Disney) - Another movie with a great sense of humor. A great girl power movie, too.

The Road to Eldorado - This movie is great for kids, but also has some great humor for adults.

Muppet Treasure Island - This may well be the best Muppet Movie Ever. I laugh every time I watch it.

Harvey - This is an old Black and White sure to stimulate the imagination.

The Princess Bride - This movie is a cult classic Comic Fantasy Adventure and should be in everyone's movie collection.

Willow - Ah, Val Kilmer buffed and with long brown hair. But that's not why you should watch this movie. It's just a perk. This is a great Fantasy Adventure that should sit right next to The Princess Bride in your collection.

Ella Enchanted - Put a bunch of fairy tales in a blender and then semi-modernize it. A fun flick.

Older kids and Adults

- From here on out, use your own judgement. These are all movies I wouldn't show to a young child, but it's your call.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding - Your kids could probably watch this, but they might be lost on some of the jokes. If you've come from a large family or even just know someone who does, this movie will have you laughing.

Arsenic and Old Lace - A very funny black and white starring Cary Grant and a lot of other faces you will recognize. This didn't make the all ages cut because it involves murder.

Tank Girl - This movie is FUNNY. Everybody I've talked to either hasn't seen it, or they love it. I've never talked to someone who hates it. Lori Petty does an awesome job as Tank Girl.

The 13th Warrior - This book is based off of Michael Crichton's book "Eaters of the Dead" and is a very well done epic movie.

Men In Black - This movie is cool. Lots of science fiction and alien blasting. Men In Black II is out and also very enjoyable.

Stigmata - This, to me, is a very interesting movie. It is about the Stigmata, lost gospels, and the Catholic Church. No disrespect was meant to the Catholic Church, but some Catholics, and perhaps members of other religious groups, may find this movie offensive. I would like to think not, that people would have an open mind, but I do live in the real world. I do not recommend this movie for children because there is some intense imagery that could cause nightmares. The DVD has an alternate ending.

The Saint - A fun Russian Spy movie.

The Ice Runner - This movie is based on the true story of a man convicted of being a spy in Russia. Very good.

Rush Hour 1 and 2 - Two movies with lots of action and comedy.

The Ghost and The Darkness - "Only the most incredible parts of the story are true" says the back of the DVD cover. This is based on a true story of two man killing lions who stopped the construction of a railroad in East Africa in 1896. The lions are now on display in a museum in Chicago.

ThunderHeart - This movie was inspired by actual events on reservations in the 70's. In an attempt to get the Souix to talk to the FBI, they send out a half-blood agent who must come to grips with his heritage that he had been trying to forget. This is a very gritty movie, but very worth seeing. Graham Greene's performance is a highlight of the film.

Connie and Carla - "Victor/Victoria" meets "Some Like it Hot". Very good for a laugh. I'm listing it here because I've found a lot of people have never heard of it, and that's a shame.
